Benn attributes his longevity to his annual trip to the Tolpuddle Festival. I've forgotten where he was in the speech at this exact moment, but I seem to recall the arm gestures was part of an anecdote about somebody.

I just threw this together in ten minutes because I'd already seen that output of the better prepared, equiped and talented flickerites and knew I couldn't compete. Cropped from 200mm at f5.6, ISO 400, and variously 1-2secs. Sharpness wasn't helped by the buildup of condensation on the lens, and the fact that focusing was probably affected by the thing cooling down.

The Anglican cathedral in Birmingham, with its first Bishop, Charles Gore, outside. The building was constructed in 1715 as a parish church, when St Martin's proved insufficient for the city's growing population. It was consecrated as a cathedral in 1905 when Gore split the Diocese of Worcester to create the Diocese of Birmingham. Because of its origins as a parish church, it is the third smallest cathedral in England, after Derby and Chelmsford.The grade I listed cathedral is of brick faced with stone, in the Baroque Style. The original architect was Thomas Archer, though it was enlarged in the 19th century by Birmingham architect J.A. Chatwin. Stained glass windows are by Edward Burne-Jones, and were saved from bombing in WWII by the civic society.

I think that river is probably Crooke Gill anyway. It's the valley between Pen-y-ghent and Fountains Fell, taken from the Pen-y-ghent summit, in the Yorkshire Dales.

The village of Kettlewell in Upper Wharfedale, Yorkshire Dales National Park, in the north of England. The village is sheltered between Great Whernside, and Buckden Pike mountains at the confluence of the River Wharfe and Park Gill Beck. The first market was held here in the 13th century, and the industrial revolution of it was a site of textile manufacture. It was location of the fictional village of "Knapely" in the 2003 film Calendar Girls.

Construction of Salisbury Cathedral began in 1220 to replace the Norman cathedral a few miles north at Old Sarum. The cathedral is famous for having the tallest spire in the country (one of the tallest in the world), the largest cloisters, and the best preserved of the four Magna Carta. In 1823 Constable painted the cathedral from the Bishop's Palace.
The cathedral has been undergoing extensive repairs for over two decades now, so I have never seen it free from scaffolding. Works are still ongoing on the north face, but the west face, tower, and spire, show here, are now complete. Weathering and vandalism by Cromwell had severely damaged the west face and its 72 statues, which have been restored or replaced with exact replicas. By the time the restoration is complete, it will have taken nearly thirty years -- the original cathedral was built in a mere 36 years, with mediaeval technology -- and £20 million.

Britain's second oldest Cistercian monastery. Situated on the River Wye in monmouthshire, just over the border into Wales from England. The abbey was founded by Walter de Clare, Lord of Chepstow, on May 9, 1131, and surrendered to Henry VIII on September 3, 1536 by Abbot Wyche. The view from the monument to William Tyndale above North Nibley on the scarp of the Cotswolds Hills in Gloucestershire. The 111 ft (34 m) tower of 1866 has views out over the estuary of the River Severn between Bristol and Gloucester, over to the Forest of Dean and Monmouthshire, as well as inland over the Cotswolds.Tyndale was a 16th century protestant reformer who was born nearby. Tyndale translated the bible into English, for which he was imprisoned at Vilvoorde, near Brussels, in 1536, tried for heresy, and burnt at the stake.

Sharpness (that's Sharp+ness, like Loch Ness) is a dock in the middle of nowhere, half way between Bristol and Gloucester. The dock is quite a distance up the Severn estuary, and a long way from the open Atlantic. The dock lies at the southern end of the Gloucester ship canal.
This was taken at about 7pm on a June evening.
