guys, a quick note on how flickr works: posting your photo to a group is considered an invitation for people to view and comment on your photo. traditional topics for such comments include what about a photo the commenter likes, and any suggestions for ways it might be done differently. different crops, compositions, angles, lighting, processing. flickr users are enthusiastic about photography and love to share ideas about each other's photography in this way. generally, if somebody leaves simple friendly helpful suggestions alongside saying nice things about the stuff you made, that is considered in advanced civilisations to be a good thing. it is not to be mistaken for an insult. replying to such a comment with a series of increasingly frantic private messages rambling about your long trip down to the shops, and blocking the commenter from making their reply similarly in private, looks just the slightest bit crazy.
99.9% of flickr users get this. and get this without effort. some of the more venerable lads and lasses of the english counties groups may still need to put some work in on this one.

on tuesday we went to "Winter Wonderland Hyde Park" (no relation to Lapland New Forest"), drank mulled wine, and took a ride on their really big ferris wheel.
however, since the graphics card in my PC is on its last legs, I'm stuck on my Eee, and for now y'all will have to make do with this picture of a ferris wheel in Edinburgh last week.

looking down Regent Street from the roof of Broadcasting House a couple of weeks ago.
it was shortly after we crammed inside radio 4 itself (which is surprisingly small) during the link between the archers and front row. (you might have heard us giggling in the background.)
now i'm off to ride busses and walk around the lake district, since shitty evans cycles* haven't managed to fit a new hub on my wheel despite having had all week.
(* i know, what did i expect? they're the only choice 'round these parts, though.)

Stumbled upon a set of unstitched jpegs while looking for something that might be useful for a webpage header, so I gave it a quick run through autostitch. My experience of autistitch, though, is that it's fun, but just a toy.
This set is from an early morning at Derwent Water last year. Have y'all been looking at the awesome pictures of the lakes in the snow in the Cumbria pool?
And it has only now occurred to me that I must have a dozen more sets of unstitched jpegs lying around to play with...

Well, not really. Photo #10,000 was reached long ago, since I started out on flickr just uploading any -- and every -- old crap I shot. I've since been both more selective in what I put in, and occassionally cutting some of the crap that's already in. So this morning I cut 15%, and I think I'll have go at a further 25% of what's left when I get another free moment...
