Sharpness (that's Sharp+ness, like Loch Ness) is a dock in the middle of nowhere, half way between Bristol and Gloucester. The dock is quite a distance up the Severn estuary, and a long way from the open Atlantic. The dock lies at the southern end of the Gloucester ship canal.

I don't know if these really count as Severn Trows. The original Severn Trows were, I'm told, old wooden boats filled with stones and sunk on the banks of the Severn Estuary to stabilise them -- these days the same job is done by stacks of wire cages filled with rocks. I asume these barges were also run aground here deliberately, on the narrow bank that separates the river from the last mile or so of the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. Of course, for all I know, they may have been involved in the incident that caused the collapse of the Severn Railway Bridge.

"The Council House has been the seat of local government in Bristol, England since 1956. It is situated on College Green, opposite the Cathedral and at the foot of Park Street in Bristol city centre. Throughout its history it has been home to Bristol city council. It was designed in the 1930s but built after World War II. The architect was Vincent Harris.
It is a grade II* listed building. The concrete frame is clad with very wide, thin bricks, with Portland stone dressings and a leaded hipped roof in a Neo-Georgian style. The steep and high roof with gilded unicorns to the corners of the end blocks.
The foundation stone for The Council House was laid in 1938 and the building was opened by the Queen in 1956. The ceremonial entrance overlooks the moat and leads into the reception hall which is lined with local Doulting stone and paved with black and white Italian marble. It also features a blue and gold wall clock, encircled by the signs of the zodiac and equipped with its own wind indicator. The Conference Hall is the largest room in the building. The names of all Majors and Lord Mayors of Bristol since 1216 are cut into the stone walls. The walls of the Lord Mayor’s Reception Room are panelled in English Walnut and there is a colourful frieze displaying the heraldry of the Bristol trade guilds, and, in gold leaf, the names of famous Bristolians." - Wikipedia

Bristol's geology is of the clay Avon valley and the limestone of the Mendips to the south, Cotswolds to the north east, and the Avon and Blaise Gorges in the west of the city. Lesser known is its coal field, and Trooper's Hill, this lump of pennant sandstone in the east of the city. While the remaining undeveloped areas of clay and limestone support deciduous woodland, and dairy agriculture, Trooper's Hill has an acidic heathland ecology found nowhere else in the area.
The wonky structure centre-left is a chimney from a ventilation system for the 19th century riverside industry at the bottom of the hill.

I spent ten minutes layer masking the lighthouse (because I hate photoshop's dodge & burn tool) so I could increase the contrast of the sky, making the sunset look far more impressive than it actually was, without burning out the lighthouse.

The Princess Elizabeth, presumably on some sort of test excercise, crossing the 402 m 24 arch Ribblehead viaduct (built 1870-74) in the Yorkshire Dales national park in northern England. The Settle-Carlisle railway was threatened with closure in the 1980s because British Rail did not want to spend the money required to keep the viaduct safe. Fortunately the plans were made long after the public backlash against railway closures had set in, and the closure was strongly opposed, forcing BR to refurbish the line.
I wasn't expecting this train to come along -- a fortutous accident of right place and time.
