Melcombe

Melcombe

Large version - Comment at flickr.com

From yesterday's early morning ride up over the scarp of the Dorset Downs to Milton Abbas and back. This was on the return journey over Bulbarrow, looking down on the big break in the hills at Melcombe.

It's a few years since I've done any stitching, and in the past I've only really treated that as a toy (especially so as it was before I had a lens capable of the quality of the 17-55 f2.8), but the mood came upon me yesterday to give it another go. So this is a 180° shot stitched from 9, from the emergency services masts all the way around to the iron age earthworks of Rawlsbury Camp, with Nettlecombe Tout and the Dorset Gap in the distance.

I've only just noticed too late that in cropping and processing I missed at little bit in the top right corner, which will stand out on black...

In unrelated news, incase you missed it a few photos back, I made a twitter for photo stuff: @cotchdotnet.

Glenfinnan

Glenfinnan

Large version - Comment at flickr.com

Looking down on the viaduct and Shiel Water, way back in May 2010. I'd gone to the end of the little private lane up the glen and climbed a little way up above the stream and trees to eat lunch and shoot a train crossing the valley -- not that lunchtime is usually a good time to shoot anything. I uploaded the one with the train a couple of years ago, but found this one in the "is it worth uploading?" folder, and decided that the light and shadows and contrasts and sky came out better here.

In unrelated news, I created a twitter specifically for photography/travel type stuff, so if you had been put off by all the other nonsense I was tweeting before, you could follow @cotchdotnet.

lane

lane

Large version - Comment at flickr.com

summer evening on the lanes of Dorset's Blackmore Vale. Familiarity breeds contempt, and most of the time I find this landscape pretty dull -- especially when the trees and hedges are scraggly and dormant and the skies featureless. But when there's a burst of growth and a burst of sunlight...
