Windermere

Windermere

Large version - Comment at flickr.com

and the snow-capped Langdale Pikes on monday, while walking from Ambleside to the train station, weighed down with all the equipment. it was very difficult to find anywhere to take photos along Windermere -- so much of the shore is fenced off with big "private" signs -- a disgrace that i would make a bigger fuss about, if Windermere weren't the dullest of all the lakes.

All Souls

Photoblog: 08 Mar 2010

looking down Regent Street from the roof of Broadcasting House a couple of weeks ago.

it was shortly after we crammed inside radio 4 itself (which is surprisingly small) during the link between the archers and front row. (you might have heard us giggling in the background.)

now i'm off to ride busses and walk around the lake district, since shitty evans cycles* haven't managed to fit a new hub on my wheel despite having had all week.

(* i know, what did i expect? they're the only choice 'round these parts, though.)

Photoblog: 14 Mar 2010

This afternoon I received my lovely new Nikkor 17-55 f2.8, so I had a good incentive to go out and have a play with it on the way home. I am very dissapointed that it hasn't magically made me capable of getting compositions right...

Large version - Comment at flickr.com

hey lookit, you guys, i wrote a blog on the subject of the stop and search policy, given its timeliness as the european courts declare it to be unlawful:

cotch.net/blog/20100118_0158

this on my new* photography blog, where i will be writing occasionally on topics of amateur photography, being a photographer in london, and some of the wonderful and wonderfully ugly places that i encounter. do subscribe, won't you?

Photoblog: 04 Mar 2010

at sunrise on a freezing morning a couple of weeks ago. a nice peaceful scene on the river while behind the camera a hundred thousand people cross london bridge in an unbroken stream six deep from the station...

hey, lookit: i have a newly reskinned website:

cotch.net

it's going to be a full time photography website from now on. (if you still want the science, it can be found here: joe.dunckley.me.uk.) it has galleries and you can view the pictures large and on black backgrounds and all that stuff. i'll also be doing a bit of blogging about photography -- do subscribe!

Photoblog: 02 Mar 2010

Stumbled upon a set of unstitched jpegs while looking for something that might be useful for a webpage header, so I gave it a quick run through autostitch. My experience of autistitch, though, is that it's fun, but just a toy.

This set is from an early morning at Derwent Water last year. Have y'all been looking at the awesome pictures of the lakes in the snow in the Cumbria pool?

And it has only now occurred to me that I must have a dozen more sets of unstitched jpegs lying around to play with...

Greenland Dock

Greenland Dock

Large version - Comment at flickr.com

Photoblog: 10 Feb 2010

Sunrise this morning. I froze my fingers getting this. As you can see, the dock is not an inconsiderable body of water. It was designed for ocean ships (albeit not of today's scale), and would have assumed that it contained salt walter, though I suppose it may have been years since the lock fully opened to exchange water with the Thames Estuary, and it may well be fed fresh water from culverts and storm drains. Even so, frozen water means it's cold. (Something to bring you back to reality after that last warm sunny summer shot from the archives.)
